Vieques Island House
Vieques is noted as being one of the last vestiges of the “old world” Caribbean. Our developer client sought to create a template design for multiple residences that would serve as a kit of parts easily modified to accommodate the needs of multiple buyers. The residences were to be forward thinking and environmentally friendly.
The NWD Vieques Residence design is the formulation of old and new Puerto Rico. It references the works of architect Henry Klumb, considers the environmental responsibilities of a modern building, and the boundaries of indigenous materials and construction techniques.
The residences are designed to take full advantage of ocean views, site characteristics, and to inhabit the land in an environmentally sound manner. Sun angles, predominate winds, climate and topography have all been analyzed in order to ensure appropriate integration into the site while providing optimum comfort for occupants.
The homes can be modified to include up to two “casitas” (small cottages) that can be connected to the main building by catwalks or courtyards.
